Tackling Fly-Tipping in Leen Valley
Fly-tipping is more than just an eyesore. It can make neighbourhoods feel neglected, attract further dumping, harm local wildlife and create a costly burden for the Council and ultimately local taxpayers. There is simply no excuse for leaving waste on our streets, verges, green spaces or beside our allotments.
Nottingham City Council now offers free bulky waste collections for residents, making it easier than ever to dispose of unwanted furniture and other large items responsibly. Please make use of this service rather than leaving waste in our community. You can find out more and arrange a collection through the Nottingham City Council website.
One area I have already taken action on is the allotment area behind Northdown Road, which has unfortunately become a regular hotspot for fly-tipping. After making representations to Nottingham City Council, I was pleased to see the accumulated waste cleared. However, simply clearing the area is not enough—we need to stop the problem from returning.
I will be working with residents and allotment holders to look at practical ways of tackling persistent fly-tipping in the area, including exploring what further preventative and enforcement measures may be available. This could include improving reporting, looking at environmental improvements and considering whether additional enforcement action can be taken against those responsible.
Keeping Leen Valley clean is a shared responsibility. I will continue to push for action from the Council, but I also ask everyone to play their part: please dispose of your waste responsibly and report fly-tipping when you see it. Together, we can protect our neighbourhood and make Leen Valley a cleaner and more welcoming place to live.
